The same rules for everyone
Every resident follows the same house rules. This is a summary, and residents receive the full rules before they move in.
Staying sober
Residents stay substance-free, on and off the property. That includes alcohol and cannabis, even though cannabis is legal in California. Prescribed medication is fine when taken as directed, including medication for addiction treatment.
Testing
Residents are subject to drug and alcohol testing. Testing may be random or done when there is a reason for it, and residents are expected to stay substance-free while living at the residence.
Daily routine
- Be home by curfew and sign in and out.
- Attend your recovery meetings each week: three if you are working, four or five if you are not.
- Work, go to school, or look for work.
- Attend the weekly house meeting.
- Do your chores and keep your space clean.
Recovery meetings
Residents choose the meetings that work for them, such as AA, NA, CA, ACA, SMART Recovery or Recovery Dharma. Any of them counts toward the weekly requirement. Residents may also attend meetings online by Zoom. Not sure which to try? Read how to choose a recovery meeting.
Living together
- Visitors are welcome in common areas during set hours. There are no overnight guests.
- Treat housemates and neighbors with respect. No violence, threats or weapons.
- Phones and internet are allowed.
If someone slips
We treat a relapse as a health and safety issue first. We talk with the resident and make a plan together, and a resident who is honest and working the plan can stay.
Resident rights
Residents are treated with dignity and respect. They choose their own doctors and outpatient provider, take their medication as prescribed, and have their personal information kept private. The house rules, fees and resident agreement are provided in writing before move-in, and a written grievance process is available.
